This annual event resumes after a year’s absence, on Sunday 27 February. We meet at the Astronomer, 125 Middlesex Street, London E1 7JF from noon until 1.15ish. The pub is just off Bishopsgate (turn off by Woodins Shades) close to Liverpool Street station; a Fullers house it serves the usual Chiswick and Dark Star range. From there we take in the Kings Stores, Williams Ale House and the Commercial Tavern (about an hour in each) and finish at the ever-excellent Pride of Spitalfields in Heneage Street, just off Brick Lane, at 5-5.30ish. The Halal on St Mark Street/Alie Street has been proposed as an eating place. All are welcome as usual. Please contact Roger (editor@spbw.beer) for more details of pubs and other vital information.
The AGM will be held on the 5th March at the iconic ‘White Horse’ (AKA ‘Sloaney Pony’) in Parsons Green, London SW6. The pub is only 2 minutes walk away from Parsons Green underground station on the Wimbledon branch of the District line. The starting time of the meeting is 12.30 PM and after the meeting there will be a couple of the usual pub rambles probably in the Fulham and West London area.
The White Horse has a very good kitchen and there are several food options menu including a buffet or normal mains etc menu. The full list of options can be viewed at ‘www.whitehorsesw6.com‘.
SPBW members who wish to attend the meeting MUST inform Peter Chutter at ‘pchutter.spbw@yahoo.com’ or text to 07517 201121 by Thursday evening the 24th February and indicate whether they require the buffet or normal menu (order separately when you arrive) or no food at all. We are hoping to arrange a discount on the food. Also if you are a CAMRA member please bring your card as there is a good discount on the beer (usually they have 6 different beers on – typical price for an up to 5.5% ABV is £3.60 with discount).
If you book food and then cannot attend you must let us know a couple of days before hand otherwise you may still be liable for payment (We are taking this on trust).
Common and Aldbrickham branch will hold its first Founders Day outing aka Pete Smith Memorial Pub Crawl on Saturday 19th February. This will take the form of a tour of the pubs of Banbury. An itinerary will be circulated to branch members and other interested parties nearer the time. All SPBW members are welcome to join us. Contact John Dearing for further information: john@jbdearing.co.uk/
The annual East London Beer and Curry event will take place on Sunday 27th Febuary 2022.
From lunchtime there will be a tour of pubs in the Aldgate/Spitalfields area of east London, ending at the Pride of Spitalfields around 6pm. We will then proceed to our eating place, which may well be the Halal, corner of Alie Street/St Mark Street, Aldgate. Other food venues are located near by if you prefer not to have a curry!
Meeting pub and full itinerary will be made known in the February issue of Pint in Hand, as well as the SPBW website and the mail out. Anybody interested should contact Roger – editor@spbw.beer
