| Venue | Various pubs in East London |
| Details | SPBW BEER & CURRY Sunday 8 February Meet from 12 noon at: Hare 505 Cambridge Heath Road, E2 9BU Close to Cambridge Heath station on London Overground (Weaver Line) from Liverpool Street. Turn left out of station, pub approx. 200yds north. Buses 106 and 254 stop nearby. Nearest tube station is Bethnal Green (Central), half a mile south. Old school locals pub. Usual beers are Landlord and Leigh on Sea Legra Pale. Turn right out of pub and walk approx. 500 yards. Dundee Arms , 339 Cambridge Heath Road, E2 9LH Fairly hipsterish pub, usually just has Five Points Pale on handpump. By no means the best pub on this walk, no need to hang around! To be honest, you’d be justified in leaving it out altogether and spending more time in later pubs. Cross the road outside pub into Old Ford Road. Take second right into Globe Road. Camel , 277 Globe Road, E2 0JD (GBG) Excellent small, cosy locals pub. Usually 3 cask beers, Sambrook Wandle is a regular. If you want lunch, the pub offers a range of pies. Turn right out of pub down Globe Road to Roman Road, cross over and turn right. Either take no 8 bus, get off at Barnet Grove stop, walk back and turn right into Buckfast Street. Or walk: straight across traffic lights, continue down Bethnal Green Road approx. 800 yards, past Vallence Road, then left into Buckfast Street. King’s Arms 11A Buckfast Street, E2 6EY (off Bethnal Green Road). (GBG) Excellent pub, one of my regular haunts. 4 – 6 cask beers from all over. Lots of crafty keggy stuff as well. Turn left out of pub, then right, left and right again into Cheshire Street. Carpenter’s Arms 73 Cheshire Street, E2 6EG. (GBG) Another small, cosy pub. Usually 2 cask beers on. Turn right out of pub down Cheshire Street. Turn left into Brick Lane, past the old Truman Brewery, approx. 500 yards, look out for Heneage Street on the left. Pride of Spitalfields 3 Heneage Street, E1 5LJ. (GBG) Try to arrive here by about 6pm. Legendary pub which should need no introduction. Then for solid refreshment at a location to be decided. |
