It is provisonally planned to hold the 2nd Bill English memorial event on
Saturday 10th September 2022. SO PLEASE PUT THIS DATE IN YOUR
DIARIES.
Bill loved the annual Alton, Hampshire ‘Bus and Pub Running Day’ and the
first FDEB was held in July 2019. Alas, this event no longer exists.
So keeping to the theme of buses and pubs a planned trip from Tunbridge
Wells to Tenterden using the route 297 bus is provisionally planned.
A reccy of the route is planned within the next few Saturdays to check out
the feasibility for train and bus timings and pub selection. There are a
number of stopping off villages along the route (Pembury, Matfield,
Brenchley, Horsmonden, Goudhurst, Iden Green, Cranbrook, Bendenden,
Rolvenden and Tenterden) with various pubs in each.
The plan is to get a train to Tunbridge Wells (about 3/4 hour) from Waterloo
East at about 9.45 AM after having the first breakfast around Waterloo East
station area from about 8.30-8.45. (The train starts from Charing Cross but
getting a breakfast around there may be difficult). Then a 2nd breakfast (or
snack) in Tunbridge Wells. The total time on the bus from Tunbridge Wells to
Tenterden is about 100 minutes. Then to finish get a 2 or 2A bus from
Tenterden to Ashford, Kent station which takes about 40 minutes and then
back to London.
This will be a very full day, but should be great fun!
Further update with venues, timings and bus & train prices will follow the
reccy.
