We are planning a gathering of SPBW members in the city of Derby on Saturday 8th July. Derby is famed for its numerous excellent pubs offering a wide range of beers. The day is also the annual event in memory of Bill English, a great SPBW stalwart who died in 2018. More details of the event will appear in due course but put the date in your diary and we look forward to seeing a lot of our members on the day.
WOODFEST 2023 (WF4) EGHAM USC UPDATE
We are now further advanced with the planning for ‘Woodfest 4’.
The opening hours are: Thursday 11th May – 3 PM to 10,30 PM
Friday 12th May – Noon to 10.30 PM
Saturday 13th May – Noon to 10.30 PM
The venue capacity is a little less than last year. So to avoid disappointment it is advisable to pre book via the website shop using the link below. On receipt of your booking you will be emailed ticket(s) which we would like you to bring either in printed paper form or on your mobile phone.
WOODFEST 2023 (WF4)
The fourth SPBW WoodFest will be held from 11 – 13 May at Egham United Services Club, 111 Spring Rise, Egham, Surrey TW20 9PE.
EUSC is well known to aficionados of good ale for its regular beer festivals. It’s less than half a mile from Egham rail station (Waterloo – Reading line).
Details of opening times, admission prices etc will be on our website as soon as possible, or contact wf3treasurer@yahoo.com.
We need volunteers to staff the festival as well as help with the set-up from Monday to Wednesday (8th – 10th) and the take-down on the Sunday after the festival. Anyone interested in helping, please contact Angela Aspin, who handles the volunteering, at angelajaspin@manx.net.
We had originally planned to return to the Turk’s Head for WF4 but a rugby match at nearby Twickenham made this unavailable.
BEER & CURRY SUNDAY 12th March
This year’s B&C will be on Sunday 12 March. The fun will start at the Astronomer, 125 Middlesex Street, London E1 7JF from 12 noon. The pub is just off Bishopsgate, close to Liverpool Street station and serves beers from the Fullers/Dark Star range. The aim is to leave here 13.15ish and then visit the Kings Stores, Williams Ale House, Commercial Tavern and finish at the Pride of Spitalfields, just off Brick Lane at about 17.30 (the same itinerary as last year). We’ll then make our way to a suitable restaurant.
All are welcome – please contact Roger (editor@spbw.beer) for more details of the pubs/route and possible even a map.
